Newsletter : August, 2005
Greetings fellow Scout parents, this is the first official newsletter for the ’05-’06 school year. I'm really excited and a little frightened. Being Cubmaster is a big job as I’m beginning to discover, but that doesn’t deter me.
We have a number of business items I need to communicate before school starts. I haven’t yet finished getting the calendar together though. I’ve intentionally waited until the school calendar and the Parish calendar were more finished so that we can hopefully avoid any major conflicts. So, I’ll post another email in the next week to alert you to the calendar for the year.
ScoutTrack
As I’ve mentioned, the Pack is now using an online pack management system called ScoutTrack. It’s an excellent system and if you’re reading this email, you are already in the system. If you know someone who hasn’t received this email but should have, or you have another email address you’d like to receive information to, please alert me.
Again, if you find you need help with the system, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Also, please check your profile information (address, phone, etc.) while online.
Registration
It’s time to get those checkbooks out. For all the returning families, please renew your son’s registration for ’05-’06 before Sep. 1st. I will be at the Scout table Thursday night(BTSN) and can accept checks(or cash). Dues are again $85. That’s pretty excellent; no inflation in three years.
You can also drop off your dues in the school office. Just ask Debbie where the Cub Scout folder is. Place your dues in an envelope with your family name in it and drop it in the folder. If you are not returning, which I know happens, please drop me an email so that I won’t hound you.
Medical Forms
We are required by BSA to have a medical form on file for each and every Scout. Beginning this year, each family needs to file a Class 1 Medical Form for each of their Scouts. All Webelos are also required to complete a Class 2 Medical Form. The Class 2 is at the end of the Class 1 Medical Form.
I know we all feel this information should be kept confidential. And, it will be. As I mentioned previously, Mrs. Kate Denefe has accepted the role of Pack 229 Medic. She will be responsible for reviewing the medical forms and communicating with other leaders the specific needs or conditions of our boys. Communication will be at her discretion and information will only be shared in the best interest of the child.
Please complete the form listed below and either place it in the Scout folder(in an envelope) in the school office or mail it to me and I’ll see that it gets to Mrs. Denefe.

Popcorn - Show & Sell
We're doing it again. Last years Show-N-Sell was so popular and successful, we’re ‘all in’. BSA has two fundraisers a year. Both involve popcorn and us. We sell popcorn once in the late summer during Show-N-Sell and the other in late fall which is a typical Door-To-Door. Show-N-Sell occurs during the latter part of August and early September, we setup tables outside of popular stores (ala Girl Scout cookies). Last year we sold almost $1500 of popcorn. This year we are trying for $2500.
We need volunteers to man these stations. Some people don’t like the door-to-door routine. This is a great alternative for those families to still participate in our fundraising activities. We typically sell around $100 per hour, so we need LOTS of volunteers. Once we have the schedule finalized, I’ll be asking each of us to take on a small amount of time to support our pack.
Leaders
I’m happy to say that we’ve filled an Asst. Den leader slot for Bear Den. Mr. Pat Feeney has agreed to assist Mr. Steve Lacey. Mr. Feeney’s son Pat is a transfer from St. Austin. We still need atleast two assistants for the Wolf Den however.
Since I’ve taken on the role of Cubmaster, I don’t have the time to continue maintaining the web site. We need a new Webmaster to take over those functions. If you have some technical skills and a free evening every couple of weeks, send me an email.
