Join Cub Scout Pack 229

When you join our pack, we want to make you feel welcome. We have put together the information below to help you learn more about Scouting and Pack 229. Let us know if we missed anything!

Cub Scout Pack 229 is based in the Vail Valley and primarily serves Scouts from Gypsum and Eagle, Colorado. We have Scouts from throughout the valley from a number of schools as well as home schoolers. We offer Dens for both boys and girls ranging from Kindergarten to 5th grade and meet approximately 2x per month, once at a Pack meeting and once as a Den meeting.

Cub Scouting provides fun, hands-on learning activities that puts kids in the middle of the action. Activities are centered around earning badges that are specific to each school grade level and include hiking, nature, science, citizenship, first aid, sports, and more.

Our activites encourage boys and girls to make friends, be helpful to others, and do their very best no matter the outcome. Scouting is a great opportunity for the whole family to join in engaging activities that helps scouts feel accomplished and prepared for whatever life brings their way.

We welcome new scouts all year long and look forward to having you a part of our pack!

PACK MEETINGS

Once a month all Dens meet together for a “Pack Meeting", which all Cub Scouts and their families are encouraged to attend. It is a time for the family to get information on upcoming activities and share in the Scouting spirit. Our Pack activities typically include Scout Rally Night to welcome everybody to a new year, Rain Gutter Regatta where we build and race small boats, the Fall Pumpkin Festival, Pumpkin Carving, Popcorn Sales, Snowbox Derby (sledding on cardboard boxes), Blue and Gold celebration of Scouting, Pinewood Derby, Rocket Launch, Campout and multiple Community Service events.

Be sure to attend and join in the excitement while watching your Scout advance! We encourage scouts to wear their uniform.

DEN MEETINGS

Den Meetings are held once a month and provide your scout with opportunities to enjoy various planned activities, learn new skills, and have great fun. Most meetings are centered on advancement towards their current rank. Parental attendance is required at Den Meetings unless coordinated with your Den Leader. Please keep in touch with your scout's Den Leader so that you will know what activities are taking place and can track the progress your child is making. The Pack reserves space with Calvary Christian Fellowship Church; however, it is up to each Den to align on timing and location of meetings. Typical locations include at the church, a park, the library, or a family’s home.

ADVANCEMENT

Every Cub Scout begins by earning the Bobcat badge and then works towards their relevant grade level badge. Completion of the badge is encouraged, but not required to participate in the next year’s activities. Throughout the year, Cub Scouts earn belt loops for completing required and elective activities as they progress towards accomplishing the badge for their relevant grade level. Dens meet roughly once per month to work on these requirements and families can do them on their own if they miss a session and a make up is not available.

FUNDRAISING

Every year the Pack participates in the Trails End Popcorn Sale and hosts the Eagle Fall Festival and Pumpkin Patch at Brush Creek Park and Pavillion. The pack relies heavily on the funds generated by these fundraisers to keep our dues low. Everyone's participation is expected and appreciated.
